RRB NTPC Syllabus 2024 1st 2nd CBT Exam Pattern

Here you can check RRB NTPC Syllabus 2024 of 1st and 2nd CBT with exam pattern. Railway Recruitment board of all regions conduct online written examination for Station Master, Goods Guard, and other posts of NTPC. There shall be two stage CBT (Computer Based Test) for all the notified categories of posts followed by qualifying Skill (Typing) Test or Aptitude Test, wherever applicable and Document Verification. Those candidates who want to get selected should prepare better if they want to clear the exam.

RRB NTPC Syllabus 2024 & Exam Pattern for 1st 2nd CBT

Question papers shall be of Objective Multiple Choice Type and will be in English, Hindi, Urdu and local languages. The standard of questions for CBT (Computer Based Test) will be generally in conformity with the educational standards prescribed for the posts.
Selection is made strictly according to merit on the basis of 2nd CBT/online examination (AND Aptitude Test CBAT, Typing skill test TST wherever applicable). Based on the performance of candidates in the 2nd CBT /online examination and Aptitude Test/ Typing Skill Test , wherever applicable, candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for document verification in the main list. In addition, 50% extra candidates will also be called but they will only be considered for empanelment if there is a shortfall / not joining of candidates.

RRB NTPC Syllabus of 1st CBT:

It will have 100 objective questions carrying 100 marks with duration of 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwBD).

  • Mode of Exam: Computer based test (CBT)
  • Negative marking: 1/3 marks for each to be deducted if incorrect answer is given.

Section-wise details:

  • General Awareness: 40 marks 40 questions
  • Mathematics: 30 marks 30 questions
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: 30 marks 30 questions

a. Mathematics:
Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions,
Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and
Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and
Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics etc.b. General Intelligence and Reasoning:
Analogies, Completion of Number and Alphabetical Series, Coding and Decoding,
Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Relationships, Analytical
Reasoning, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams, Puzzle, Data Sufficiency,
Statement- Conclusion, Statement- Courses of Action, Decision Making, Maps,
Interpretation of Graphs etc.c. General Awareness:
Current Events of National and International Importance, Games and Sports, Art and
Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science
and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle,
Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World, Indian Polity and
Governance- constitution and political system, General Scientific and Technological
Developments including Space and Nuclear Program of India, UN and Other
important World Organizations, Environmental Issues Concerning India and World at
Large, Basics of Computers and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations,
Transport Systems in India, Indian Economy, Famous Personalities of India and
World, Flagship Government Programs, Flora and Fauna of India, Important
Government and Public Sector Organizations of India etc.

RRB NTPC Syllabus of 2nd CBT:

20 times the vacancies, candidates will be called for 2nd CBT. Separate 2nd Stage CBT shall be taken for Level 2,
3, 4, 5 and 6 with graded difficulty level. All posts falling within same level of 7th
CPC shall have a common 2nd stage CBT. Check more details in below image.
2nd stage CBT (Computer Based test) is to include questions pertaining to General Awareness, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning. The duration of 2nd stage CBT will be of 90 minutes covering 120 multiple choice objective questions.

Negative marking of 1/3 is applicable (1/3 marks to be deducted for each wrong answer).


This syllabus of 2nd CBT is same as of 1st CBT given above. Only the difficulty level differs.

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories for both CBT: 

  • UR: 40%
  • EWS: 40%
  • OBC (NCL) -30%
  • SC-30%
  • ST-25%.

There may be 2% relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against vacancies reserved for them.
For Aptitude Test,
candidates are advised to visit websites of RDSO (www.rdso.indianrailways.gov.in

& other details.

Typing Test Pattern

For the posts of Sr. Cierk Cum Typist, JAA, Sr.Time Keeper) Typing Skill Test of qualifying nature (marks obtained in typing skill test shall not be added for making merit) shall be conducted for which the number of candidates equal to eight times the number of vacancies shall be called for. The candidates should be able to type 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only with disabling editing tools and spell check facility.

For guidelines of those who appear for skill test in Hindi, Kruti Dev and Mangal font shall be made available for skill test on Personal Computer. The merit will be drawn only for the candidates qualified in the typing skill test based on performance in CBT.
