Every year the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts various examinations for various recruitments as per needs. The 20 RRBs of India conducts recruitment to Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ non Gazetted posts. RRBs notify recruitment for numerous vacant posts of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) as per requirement.

Selection Process:

Selection comprises of following stages:

Two stage Computer based tests (CBT)
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Document verification and Medical exam.

The questions will be multiple choice objective type in both tests.

In the 1st stage CBT Exam, there will be a total of 75 questions that are asked in written test. Those candidates who qualify will be called for 2nd Stage CBT having 175 questions. The score of first stage CBT exam shall be used only for shortlisting of candidates for second stage exam as per their merit.

The merit list will be prepared on the basis of CBAT. 70% weightage will be given for marks obtained in Part-A of CBT-2 and 30% weightage for marks in CBAT.

Important points for both CBT:

Qualifying marks:

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories in 1st CBT and Part A of 2nd CBT : UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%.
Qualifying pass percentage in Part B of 2nd CBT: 35% for all categories.

Negative marking: 1/3 marks for each wrong answer in both CBT.

Marks Normalization will be done in both stages of exam.

RRB ALP Syllabus 2024 for 1st CBT & Exam Pattern:

First, we will see Exam Pattern of CBT-1.

No. of Questions: 75

Total Marks: 75

Duration: 60 Minutes

Objective Questions will be asked from following sections with their syllabus.

a. Mathematics:

Number system, BODMAS, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

b. Mental Ability:

Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data
Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement — Arguments and Assumptions.

c. General Science:
This covers syllabus of 10th class Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences subjects.

d. General awareness:

Current affairs, science & technology, economics, politics, sports, culture, personalities and other subject of importance.

Question paper of Assistant Loco Pilot Exam will be multilingual and will be available in Hindi, English and Urdu and elected language.

RRB ALP Syllabus 2024 & Pattern for 2nd CBT

There will be two parts in this exam.

No. of Questions: Total 175 (100 in Part A and 75 in Part B).

Exam Duration: 2 hours 30 Minutes (Part A: 90 minutes, Part B: 1 hour)

The RRB ALP syllabus for Part A shall be as given below.
a. Mathematics:
same as 1st CBT given above.

b. General Intelligence and Reasoning:
Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling / ordering, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

c. Basic Science and Engineering:
Broad topics: Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.

RRB ALP Syllabus 2024 for Part B of 2nd Stage CBT:

This part will be only qualifying in nature and shall have questions from various trade syllabi as prescribed by Directorate General of Training (DGT).

No. of Questions: 75
Duration: 60 minutes
Qualifying marks: 35% for all categories.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) Syllabus of All Trades:

Aptitude test is of multiple-choice objective type having verbal and non-verbal questions. Candidate must clear each test battery / section of CBAT separately, to qualify. This test will only be in English and Hindi with no negative marking.

Eight times the vacancies for each notified community / category viz., UR, OBC(NCL), SC, ST and EWS (including ExSM), shall be shortlisted for CBAT on the basis of their marks in Part-A of CBT-2 as per reservation, provided they qualify in Part-B of CBT-2.
